October 2020 Newsletter

Hi WiGiv’ers!

To say that 2020 has been a challenging year is an understatement, but it also means that there is more need than ever, and this year’s WiGiv board has been working on finding new ways to serve.

Here’s an update on some of what’s happening. As always, please let us know if you have any comments, ideas, or suggestions, and if you would like to lead or assist with a WiGiv event.

  • WiGiv Delivers! In late March, WiGiv recognized a need close to home. The pandemic forced the residents of Sedgebrook (home to Mom and Dad Williams) to stay at home, leaving them without the ability to shop for groceries or run to the drug store. Through August, WiGiv has shopped and delivered over 140 grocery orders and raised over $1,400 for Salute.

  • Phone Home. Thank you for those who have contributed to the Phone Home campaign to send gift cards to service members stationed abroad so that they can keep in touch with their families back home.
  • WiGiv Virtual Turkey Trot. Calla has launched a project that will keep us connected over the holidays, raise money for House of Peace, AND help us to stay (get??) healthy over the holidays – all while keeping our social distance. Every participant will receive a WiGiv mask. More details to come. Thanks for taking this initiative, Calla!!!
  • Lunch for the Pulmonary Unit at “Emily’s Hospital”. WiGiv is buying lunch for the Medical Respiratory Intensive Care Unit at Aurora St Luke’s Medical Center where Emily works as a nurse. They have been the front line in the Covid fight and these dedicated professionals could use some support. If you’d like to help keep this going in the coming months, you can contribute any amount via WiGiv’s PayPal account: wigiv27@gmail.com. Please note that your contribution is for “Lunch”.
  • Holiday ideas. The WiGiv Board has been tossing around ideas for how we can be of service and of assistance during the holidays. Here are a couple of ideas we’re tossing around. Please respond with your feedback and any additional suggestions you may have. Thanks!
    • Toys for tots/toy drive
    • Food pantry – December
    • Coat drive across America – November
    • Knit a scarf, hat, or blanket for the homeless – use your time at home while you’re cooped up to help someone in need
  • Feed My Starving Children support.  While we’ve not been able to help FMSC with packing meals this year, please consider supporting the work of FMSC by purchasing items from their store. The following are some of the items available…
