Salute Inc is a military relief fund in Palatine, IL. When 9/11 occurred, the director, Marybeth’s, husband was deployed to Iraq, leaving the family with little income. Kindly, people all over their community were quick and more than happy to help. The catholic school her three kids attended at the time didn’t charge them a penny for the kids tuition, neighbors and friends brought over meals, helped pay their bills, and we’re unbelievably supportive through it all. Marybeth was beyond grateful for all of the compassion and help so she decided she wanted to give back and help families and individuals as they had helped her which is how Salute Inc came to be in 2003! Their main focus is to help returning veterans get back on their feet. When these veterans return home from active duty it often takes 18 months for them to receive any kind of payment from the government. This leads to unpaid bills due to lack of employment and then tends to result with homeless veterans. The goal of Salute is to prevent homelessness and to help get these veterans back on their feet during the 18 month gap by trying to provide housing, car payments, mortgage payments, employment, etc.
